Om Soorya's Archetypical Temples Illuminated Archetypes by Om Soorya. Acrylic on canvas, 122 x 122 cm, 2015.

Adding a touch of psychoanalysis to these luminous structures, artist Om Soorya presents this artwork through a Jungian lens. Just like the theory of archetypes---human psyche is shaped by collective ancestral experience---the temples seen here have their roots in the past too. "Some of Kerala's temples are believed to have been influenced by Buddhist architecture, especially stupas," says the 38-year-old Kannur-based artist. The artwork was a part of Edelweiss Palette 2016, a fundraising exhibition organized by the philanthropic arm of the Edelweiss group in Mumbai last month.
