Ketchup is an all-time favourite with people of all ages, across the globe – especially kids. Besides being the sauce of choice along with French fries, this kitchen staple can also jazz up your everyday meals.

Quick Barbecue Sauce

Why head to a store to buy barbecue sauce when you have ketchup at hand? Make this delicious smoky sweet and sour sauce at home and use it to baste the chicken or vegetables before grilling them, or as a dipping sauce with chips or fries, or as a base sauce for homemade rolls and sandwiches.

How to: In a pan, add 1 tbsp of oil. Once hot, add one cup tomato ketchup, two tablespoon each of vinegar and soya sauce, one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of red chilli sauce (or two teaspoons of paprika powder). Add a dash of salt, pepper and garlic powder (optional), stir well and let the mix simmer until it becomes thick. Cool and store it in the refrigerator.

Cocktail Dressing for Salads

A combination of creamy mayonnaise and tart-sweet tomato ketchup, this dressing works well with a variety of salads. You can also use it as a sandwich spread or a dip with fried foods.

How to: Whisk together a cup of mayonnaise, three tablespoons of ketchup, one tablespoon of lemon juice and pepper powder. Store it in the refrigerator.

Ketchup Salsa

Guests coming over and nothing to serve with the bag of nachos you have? Worry not, ketchup to the rescue. While this may not be an authentic Mexican tomato salsa you may have had at a fancy restaurant, it sure is a crowd pleaser, and so easy to put together. Best paired with tacos, nachos, herbed potato wedges, and chicken wings, this homemade salsa will save you a trip to the supermarket.

How to: In a bowl, pour one small cup of tomato ketchup. Add some minced garlic, finely chopped onion, half teaspoon of red chilli powder, a squeeze of lemon juice, and finely chopped coriander leaves. Mix them together and refrigerate.

Sandwich and Burger Spread

This versatile spread will make your sandwiches and burgers truly juicy. A wonderful mix of condiments, it goes well with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian fillings and patties.

How to: To one cup of mayonnaise, add four tablespoon of ketchup, one tablespoon of mustard sauce, one tablespoon of sriracha sauce, one teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice, mixed herbs, pepper powder and one teaspoon of honey. Mix well and refrigerate.
